The Joy of
the Lord is
Your Strength!
The dynamic diagonal movement across the vertical canvas was created to illustrate the bible verses found in the book of Nehemiah 8:9-12. The expansive white negative space represents The Holy Spirit and the light of God that surrounds the people gathered to hear God’s word with comfort and protection. The deep gold/bronze tones represent both strength and the stones at the Water Gate, where Nehemiah and Ezra proclaimed the word of God. The lighter, brighter gold represents our joy in the Lord and His invitation of rest, reflection, and His JOY. There are also two blues - one deep and one turquoise, both symbolize healing waters that give life and sustenance, flowing through and around the Water Gate. Also important for ceremonial purposes. The pearly, iridescent white is the purity of God’s promises in His Holy Word. The composition was designed to create strong movement and flow and emphasize the power of The Holy Word spoken by Nehemiah:
9 All the people began sobbing when they heard the commands of the law.
Then Ezra the priest, and I as governor, and the Levites who were assisting me said to them, “Don’t cry on such a day as this! For today is a sacred day before the Lord your God—
10 it is a time to celebrate with a hearty meal and to send presents to those in need, for the joy of the Lord is your strength. You must not be dejected and sad!” (NLV)
