“Do you not know? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God. The creator of the ends of the earth, He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary, and increases the power of the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall. But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not grow faint.”

The painting “Soar on Wings” was commissioned by a young man who found his faith renewed and his strength refreshed by the promises of God stated in the book of Isaiah, verses 40:28-31. He requested a piece that would be a legacy for his family. The composition reveals forms that tell the story of a soaring eagle who is both observing from above and also part of the painting. Subtle elements that resemble feathers and upward reaching shapes are deliberately placed to allow the viewer to experience what it might be like to mount on wings like eagles. The visual conundrums present await discovery by each viewer. The colors were intentionally mixed and each one has a specific meaning. Green represents growth and stability in worship, the turqouise tones are the moving, healing waters that cleanse and renew, the bronze is the everlasting, almighty strength of God and His word. All together the vibrant swirling colors represent the boundless energy of our God. His mighty hand protects, guides and renews our strength. The large scale allows for intense drama and movement of color, texture and forms that invites touch and enthralls the senses. Overall, the painting conveys a sense of awe, resilience, and divine empowerment that comes from only one source - Our God!
