Christmas 2020

The year 2020 will be defined as a time when humanity was connected by the COVID-19 world-wide pandemic. The human condition was tested, affected, and changed. Lives were lost. Health was compromised and our notion of everyday life was challenged. The variables are unique to every human, so are the scars. It was the year of adaptation and acquiring resilience; it was my year of observing my own trust in God and His miracles.

I created this painting in prayer, seeking the promise of hope that I find in the message of The Christmas Angel. The radiant angelic messenger is in the center of the composition and is surrounded by the sudden armies of angels. They are depicted in golden sound waves that suddenly speak into the white heavens that appear in strong contrast to the dark blue night. Luke 2:8-14 is a Bible verse that is a traditional Christmas offering that tells the account of an encounter between Shepherds and Angels that bring good tidings. It is the announcement of the birth of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I imagine that the Shepherds were terrified yet mesmerized, and they were changed forever. Shepherds received the news and sought the baby. They went back to their flocks and told everyone about the angels and The Baby. Astonished Missionaries praising God and spreading the word. I am astonished.

I praise God.

I am Hopeful.
